Subject: Advanced Features of Google Sites
Prerequisite Knowledge: Accessing a Google Account, basic manipulation of a Google document, how to create a Google site.
Content:
Day 2's workshop will cover the more advanced features of Google sites. Teachers will learn how to embed content on their site, use widgets, and make their sites more user-friendly. Teachers will discuss the use of their Google sites for in and out of school learning. Special attention will be paid to including multimedia content and tools to support what is being taught in the classroom.
Objectives:
By the end of the day, teachers will
1. Assess their current knowledge of Google sites. 2. Explore the various widgets they can add to their sites. 3. Understand how to embed content into their Google sites. 4. Critique their sites and develop plans for improving their current Google sites.
Teaching the Lesson:
1. The session will begin with begin with a brief introduction to the advanced Google sites application used today. This will be done via a presentation created in Google docs. 2. Teachers will then review the pre-assessment from day 1 to determine prior knowledge of Google sites. 3. Teachers will next be introduced to the importance of good web design and and how Google applications can help them create strong course web pages. 4. In order to model good web design, teachers will participate in exploring a Google site developed to introduce them to widgets and other advanced Google sites items. 5. Using the model Google site as a guide, teachers will then critique their own Google sites and the site of one other teacher. 6. Teachers will then spend time reviewing feedback and spending time working on their Google sites. 7. Session will end with teachers participating in a daily evaluation form.

Prepared Materials for the day include 1. Introduction and Google sites presentations to be used to teach content. 2. A Google site developed to teach using Google sites. 3. Pre-made google documents used to explain processes and design best practices.
Evaluation Strategies:
Teachers will post their finished sites to the workshop wiki. There will also be informal assessments throughout as teachers work through the material.
